Who We Are: Whirr, From Modesto to Slide Away
If you've ever turned a record up until the guitars turn into one warm wall of noise, you already know where we live. Here's who we are, and how Whirr started.
Where are we from?
We formed in October 2009 in Modesto, California.
Why "Whirr"?
We started out as Whirl. In 2011 a name dispute meant we needed a new one, so we changed a single letter and became Whirr.
Who is in the band?
- Loren Rivera: guitar, and lead vocals since 2013
- Nick Bassett: guitar
- Joseph Bautista: guitar
- Eddie Salgado: bass
- Devin Nunes: drums, since 2013
Three guitars on one stage is a lot of noise, and that's the point.
What do we sound like?
Shoegaze, with a lot of dream pop, noise pop and slowcore in the mix. Our sound is often compared with My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive.
Where have we been?
We were active from 2009 to 2015, then came back in 2019 with Feels Like You. In 2025 we returned to the stage at the Slide Away festival and then toured North America with Nothing.
Wear the noise
Our designs come on tees, long sleeves, crewnecks and hoodies, with kids' and youth sizes too. Whether you found us with Pipe Dreams or with Raw Blue, there's a design here for you.
